I get that question all the time! People ask me, Der, I have company-issued insurance (both life & health) & I pay extra for my family. Is that not enough?
There are 2 schools of thought. The first says, “have enough life insurance that IF you were to pass, your family would have 6-10 years of their basic bills paid so that at that moment, their only job is to morn”.
The second is to add up what it would cost to pay everything off and make sure you have a minimum of that amount.
The truth is that it all depends upon what you are trying to cover. Trucking is dangerous! You are constantly putting your life out there, and IF there came a day when you didn’t come home, what would you be worried about for your family? OR if there came a day when your partner passed on, who would do the job of caring for your loved ones. How much would it cost to fill that role?
My Friends, I too have been a trucker! I spent years behind the windshield, in the good times AND the bad. In the good times- It is a fabulous place to be. Seeing indescribable sunrises, and breathtaking scenery. In the bad times- it is miserable! Forced to stay on the road so you can continue to feed your family, yet unable to physically help your family or shut off your brain about the worries & concerns that are fresh in your mind….I GET IT!
There is SOOO much more to this question than a single article can contain.
THAT is why I specialize in Truckers…YOU! I’ll take the time to give you a comprehensive honest look at all of your life insurance coverages to make sure that they fit you & the needs you currently have. Life has radically changed for us in the last year. IF you haven’t had an in-depth analysis of your coverage in the last year, you are at serious risk of not having what you need. Are you going to trust your family's future without you, to an HR department who said that “you have what the company provides”?
